Welcome!

I am a final-year Social-Personality Psychology PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. Under the advisement of Dr. Bertram Gawronski, I use a social-cognitive approach to uncover the mechanisms underlying (1) moral judgments and perceptions and (2) misinformation susceptibility. My recent work has pivoted towards understanding political polarization, examining misguided moral perceptions across political lines and partisan biases in truth judgments. My research uses computational modeling approaches and involves conducting lab and online studies with observational and experimental methods.

As a proponent of open science practices, my published projects’ data, codes, and materials are available on my OSF page, and my preprints are available on my ResearchGate page. You can also find my published works’ DOIs and OSF project links on the Research page of this website. If you have any questions about my research, feel free to reach out to me at nyx@utexas.edu.

I am currently on the academic job market (AY 2024-25).

  • I hail from Singapore but have also had the fortune of calling other dynamic cities like Shanghai, Paris, London, and New York City home at different points. I received my academic training across three continents: Southeast Asia (Singapore), Europe (United Kingdom & Sweden), and North America (United States). My international exposure and interest in socio-political issues contribute much to my research interests.

Outside of my research, I spend most of my time fawning over my pets, snapping photos, visiting museums, and traveling.

  • My first name is pronounced ‘nix’/‘nicks’ and my last name ‘uhng’. If you are still struggling with the latter, my last name is a dialectal variation of the common family name Hwang/Huang (黄), so you can address me by that too.
